The Tata Nexon is one of the bestselling subcompact SUVs in the country and has achieved a new milestone of hitting the five lakh production milestone. The 500,000th Nexon rolled out of the automaker’s Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra recently, marking a significant landmark. The model has been a game-changer for the brand and has consistently been featured in the top-selling SUVs list since its launch in 2017.
Tata clocked the 100,000 production milestone in July 2019, two years since the Nexon’s launch in the country, while the next 400,000 units have rolled out in the last four years. The Tata Nexon has managed the impressive production feat in a little over five years. What’s equally impressive is the fact it is one of the few models on sale in the country that’s offered with a variety of powertrains including petrol, diesel and electric. Reports are rife with a CNG version joining the lineup as well in the future.
Apart from India, the Nexon has been equally in demand in export markets, especially considering the value-friendly proposition the model turns out to be. This is particularly true given the sheer options that cater to a variety of customers. The SUV comes with connected tech, a powerful turbo petrol engine, a torque-friendly and efficient diesel engine, sharp looks and a five-star safety rating from the Global NCAP. It also gets standard and extended-range electric options, which remain one of the most affordable in India. Tata has also managed to keep the model fresh over the years by timely introducing special editions including the most recent Dark Edition.
Tata Motors intends to keep the momentum going and is readying a comprehensive update for the Nexon expected to arrive towards the end of the year. Reports suggest that the Nexon facelift will come around the festive season bringing styling updates inspired by the Curvv concept. The cabin will see major changes as well including a digital console, a larger touchscreen infotainment system and more.
