The Indian arm of Japanese car maker Toyota has brought fleet market variant of the Yaris. It is being subsequently being sold on the Government e Marketplace. This includes Government Organisations, Departments and Public Sector Units (PSUs). The decision has come close on the heels of discontinuation of Etios which was the main offering of Toyota to the commercial market till now. Given the cost-effective nature of the fleet segment, new Yaris will be equipped with a CNG kit that will make the overall package of Yaris more efficient to run in the future. This is no surprise as the company’s vehicles in the country are used mostly as fleet vehicles. Innova and even the Fortuner is a private cab for bigger organisations and chain of hotels.
Toyota Yaris features a long list of equipment with even its base J optional variant consisting of the height-adjustable driver seat, projector headlamps, cooled glove box, electrically operated outside rearview Mirrors, power windows, and three safety airbags. However, keeping the cost factor in mind, the upcoming CNG variant of Yaris is sure to miss out on some of the above-mentioned features.

Just so you know, Toyota Yaris is powered by a single choice of a 1.5-liter petrol engine. The motor puts out 106bhp and 140Nm of max power and max torque respectively. In terms of the Transmission option, Yaris features a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed continuous variable transmission (CVT). The latter also features the convenience of paddle shifters for the quick-shift process. Just so you know, there is no diesel option available in Toyota Yaris. As far as competition is concerned, Toyota Yaris is taking on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento, and Skoda Rapid among others.
So why did this happen? Because Toyota gave too much safety to Indians (base variant had 7 airbags at launch) consumers and they rejected by saying the car is plain vanilla. This news continues to destroy sentiment of the existing and prospective customers already, sadly. This continues with this new variant as well. A challenging market situation and Toyota forgets the key word for the Indian market, Balance.
