Maruti added the Ertiga based XL6 as a premium 6-seater MPV to their portfolio alongside the SPresso in 2019 and now plans to add another model to its line-up. Currently, the car is rumoured to be named as the Maruti XL5 and has found its roots from the WagonR.

Considering the Maruti XL5 inheriting the WagonR DNA, there are quite a few things that can be deduced. The WagonR has larger alloy wheels that measure up to 15-inches and can be found on the Maruti Ignis. The ground clearance is comparatively more and the front end has new design elements to it. Apart from the split headlight units, the added design elements consist of upper grille, front bumper, lower grille, and the fog lamps. The rear-end uses LED high-mounted brake light and LED tail lamps.

On the inside, the XL5 will borrow a lot from the WagonR whilst sporting unique upholstery and trim with some exclusive tools for added features. Mechanically, the XL5 will boast a BS6 compliant K12M four-cylinder motor. It will churn out 82.94 PS of maximum power at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm. The car will pack a standard 5-speed manual gearbox and serve an optional 5-speed automated one.

Maruti XL5 will be selling from the NEXA dealerships just like the XL6 and thereby surround it by the premium line-up. Launch of the XL5 can be expected around Q3 FY2020. The price range will be pretty crisp considering the pricing for the WagonR is Rs 4.42 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Ignis sold for Rs 4.74 lakh (ex-showroom). The pricing and positioning for the XL5 have to be very strategically planned.
