Toyota Glanza Hatchback Is the Rebadged Maruti Baleno – Will this concept work after the failure of Nissan and Renault Rebadged cars?
Toyota Glanza Hatchback Launched in the Indian market today and will be available in four variants – Glanza G and Glanza V. The teaser image has revealed rear right side fender of the car with an alloy wheel – which is styled similar to Baleno albeit wears a Toyota badge on Glanza.
The official statement released by Toyota said that company is happy to announce their arrival into the rapidly growing hatchback category and looking forward to meeting the demand of its existing and prospective customers. Interior is the same with a 7-inch touch screen with Apple Car Play and Android Auto. LED lights is changed in tail-lamps. Safety kit includes two airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. Parking sensors at rear with reversing camera, leather steering, UV cut glass all around and auto headlamps are on offer.
Two BS6-compliant petrol engine options are on offer. The 1.2-litre, K12B making 83hp and 113Nm of torque, and the 1.2-litre, K12C DualJet engine with a mild-hybrid system that makes 90hp and 113Nm of torque. Gearbox options for the Glanza include a 5-speed manual and a CVT. The CVT gets a non-hybrid engine. The Toyota Glanza K12B petrol-MT’s fuel economy is 21.01kpl, the dual jet Smart Hybrid economy is rated at 23.87kpl and the CVT returns a claimed 19.56kpl. These mileage figures are un-apologetically identical to that of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Being available only in four higher variants also indicates that prices for the Toyota Glanza are higher than the price range at which Maruti Baleno retails.
Except for some different cosmetic touches on exteriors and interiors, Toyota Glanza is essentially a rebadged version of Maruti Baleno. The Toyota Glanza will take on the likes of Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz, and upcoming Tata Altroz among others.
