Earlier in the year, Toyota showcased its electric MPV concept at Indonesia International Motor Show. The underpinnings of the concept were akin to Innova Crysta although the company claimed that the displayed prototype was only made for research and development purposes. However, now for the very first time, the Crysta-based electric MPV test mule was spotted testing on roads.
The front fascia of the spied model is like Innova Crysta save for blanked grill and blue accents inserted all-around to highlight the electric credentials of the MPV. Other prominent changes on bodywork include EV badging, side decals, Innova EV insignia on D-pillar, and redesigned front bumper. There is no information about the technical specification of the battery and the power output which means nothing can be estimated about the possible performance of the electric Innova for now.
The launch of Innova HyCross in the Indian market indicates the strong focus that Toyota has on hybrid engine technology for its future portfolio of products. There is no official confirmation whether electric Innova MPV will make its way to the Indian market and as things stand now, it is unlikely to make its debut anytime soon in future.
Electric Innova makes for a good offering and likely to find favor with audiences around the world.
That said, much of its success will depend upon the range and performance credentials this vehicle will offer to prospective buyers if Toyota finally decides to launch it globally in different countries and continents. We are witnessing the rising electrification trend of vehicles even as bottlenecks related to the widespread adoption of EVs continue to remain prevalent across the globe. It will be interesting to witness whether Toyota will bring the electric Innova to India and if they decide in its favor, what will be the range that electric MPV will offer to customers.
