Toyota Kirloskar Motor has hiked prices on its two popular selling models – Fortuner and the Innova Crysta. The Toyota Fortuner is now dearer by Rs. 61,000 on the rear-wheel drive petrol and diesel trims, while the four-wheel drive variants are more expensive by Rs. 80,000. The Fortuner Legender and new GR Sport variants are pricier by a healthy Rs. 1.14 lakh.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Innova Crysta gets a price hike across all diesel variants. The seven seater and eight seater manual versions are now more expensive by Rs. 27,000, whereas the automatic variants have seen a massive hike of Rs. 86,000. The petrol Innova Crysta range does not get a price hike and starts from Rs. 17.45 lakh.
The price hikes do push Toyotas popular selling models into the luxury category, especially the Fortuner Legender that’s nearly Rs. 60 lakh (on-road). The Innova Crysta is no different with the top-end diesel automatic as much as the Mercedes-Benz GLA. That’s some steep pricing for what were once mass market offerings. Nevertheless, the Fortuner and Innova Crysta are known for their bomb-proof reliability and remain comfortable and premium.
Moreover, Toyota is introducing the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the Rs. 15-25 lakh segment for those looking for a midsize SUV in its stable. There’s also the Innova Hycross in the works that’ll arrive soon as a smaller MPV and will rival the Maruti Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, Kia Carens and more. The Innova Hycross is expected to co-exist with the Innova Crysta and will be powered by the 1.5-litre Strong Hybrid engine from the Hyryder.
