With the launch of Jupiter 125, TVS has finally plugged in the gap that existed in its scooter portfolio for a long time now. It’s natural that with this launch, the new kid on the block has to go up against the rivals that have been dominating this space. In this specification comparison review, we compare the newly launched to Jupiter 125 against its rivals to find which one of these comes on the top.
Engine and Gearbox
In terms of power and performance Hero Destini 125 puts out a maximum of 9.1hp although when it comes to the rotational force, TVS Jupiter 125 take pole position with its 10.5Nm of torque through its stacks at bottom of the power table with the least output of 8.16hp. New Jupiter shares the power train with its more powerful sibling NTorq; however, the architecture used in the former is a two-valve system as opposed to the three-valve configuration of the latter. In sum, all the contenders in the comparison stack closely to each other in terms of power and torque and feature continuous variable transmission (CVT) systems.
Chassis, Suspension and Braking System
In terms of the curb weight, Hero Destini it is the heaviest which means it loses the advantage it gains on power and dimension. Yamaha Fascino 125, on the other hand, is the lightest model tipping the scales at just 99kg.
One surprising omission is the absence of a front disc brake on the Destiny while Jupiter with its 220mm disc up front offers the largest diameter disc in the lot. Jupiter also comes with the first in segment gas-charged mono-shock suspension system. The fuel tank capacity of all the scooters in this lot is pegged at almost the same level.
Price and value for money
Hero Destini 125 comes across as the most value for money offering although it is important to note that it comes sans a front disc brake. Yamaha has also done a good job by pricing Fascino 125 in the affordable range while TVS, Honda, and Suzuki are quite evenly matched in terms of features and prices.
Suzuki Access 125 and Yamaha Fascino 125 are the ones coming with Bluetooth connectivity features but when it comes to engine refinement, Honda Activa 125 is the one that has good reliable proposition on its side. New TVS Jupiter has also got some aces up its sleeves such as an apron-mounter fuel-filler and voluminous under-seat storage compartment which makes it a good proposition on paper. We will see how it pans it out in real life when we compare it.
